Dental Technology

+3D Imaging
489_DSC_0083__3_At Sherwood Dental Center in Amarillo, we use some of the latest dental technology to improve your oral health and smile. Our 3D imaging machine is one such tool and it can help us determine the presence of decay and the position of the tooth roots. This information is used to more accurately plan your treatment so that you can have the healthy, functional, and beautiful smile that you deserve. If you are interested in learning more about 3D imaging or any of our general or cosmetic dentistry services, please contact us today.
+Digital X-rays
Digital X-rays are low-radiation diagnostic tools that help us determine the state of your oral health. Dr. Koen uses digital X-rays to detect the presence of tooth decay, abscesses, cysts, tumors, and more. Because our digital X-rays can be viewed instantly, we will be able to detect, diagnose, and treat oral health problems more efficiently than ever before. For more information on digital X-rays or our dental technology, we invite you to call or visit Sherwood Dental Center soon.

General Dentistry

+Bridges
Bridges are non-removable appliances that use crowns on two adjacent teeth to anchor one or more replacement teeth. At Sherwood Dental Center in Amarillo, we can provide custom, tooth-colored bridges in just a few appointments. During your first visit, we will prepare the adjacent abutment teeth for the crowns and then take impressions of your teeth from which the bridge will be created. At this point, Dr. Koen will place a temporary restoration in your mouth for protection. In the subsequent visit(s), the temporary will be removed and your final, custom bridge will be adjusted (if necessary) and cemented into place. Once complete, your bridge will allow you to enjoy a smile that is as functional as it is beautiful. To learn more about bridges and general dentistry, please call our office today!
+Cleanings
Professional dental cleanings (prophylaxis) at Sherwood Dental Center are an important part of a good oral hygiene routine. During your six-month cleaning, Julie, our hygienist, will use specialized dental tools to remove plaque and calculus (tartar) that are stuck on the teeth and gums. Then the teeth will be polished to remove any remaining plaque as well as to diminish the appearance of surface stains. By visiting the dentist for your professional cleanings every six months, you are helping to reduce your risk for periodontal (gum) disease as well as tooth decay. If it has been over six months since your last visit, we invite you to call us today to schedule a cleaning and achieve optimal oral health.
+Composite Fillings
Composite fillings, also known as tooth-colored or white fillings, are designed to aesthetically repair teeth with minor fractures, cracks, or decay. Dr. Koen can place a composite filling in just one appointment at Sherwood Dental Center. During the appointment, he will remove the compromised portion of the tooth, thoroughly clean the tooth, and then place, shape, and polish the composite filling. When finished, your composite filling will be a natural, beautiful addition to your smile. If you would like to learn more about tooth-colored fillings or cosmetic dentistry, give our office a call soon.
+Crowns
To enhance an imperfect tooth, Dr. Koen may recommend a dental crown. A crown will completely encase a tooth to restore it to an ideal color, shape, and size. At Sherwood Dental Center in Amarillo, crowns require just two appointments to complete. As part of the first appointment, your tooth will be prepared for the crown, impressions will be taken of your teeth, and a temporary restoration will be placed. This temporary restoration will be worn until your final crown is complete. About two weeks later, you’ll return to our office, Dr. Koen will remove the temporary restoration and place your final crown. For the most beautiful and natural-looking results, your custom crown will be created using porcelain or composite resin. Call us today to learn more about crowns and cosmetic dentistry and what they can do for your smile!

+Root Canals
Teeth that are significantly infected or decayed may require root canal treatment. Usually requiring one or two visits at Sherwood Dental Center in Amarillo, root canals are a cost-effective and healthy alternative to tooth extraction. During the root canal, Dr. Koen will use special instruments to clean out the tooth’s pulp, nerve tissue, bacteria, and any present decay. Once thoroughly clean, the tooth will be filled and sealed with medicated dental material over one or two appointments. Then, for additional protection, Dr. Koen will place a dental crown over the tooth. If you experience any pain or discomfort in your teeth or gums, contact us immediately to receive the care that you need.
+Sealants
A sealant is a thin, tooth-colored or clear material that Julie, our hygienist, will apply over the chewing surfaces of the back molars. These chewing surfaces have many narrow pits and grooves that tend to accumulate plaque, food debris, and bacteria, making the back molars more susceptible to decay. By placing sealants over the back molars, Julie can block out decay-causing bacteria, plaque, and food debris while simultaneously creating a smooth surface that is easier to keep healthy and clean. A sealant can be placed in just one quick visit to Sherwood Dental Center, and the procedure itself takes just a few minutes. Call us today to schedule your next appointment and learn more about the benefits of sealants and general dentistry.
+Teeth Whitening
Professional whitening is an effective, convenient, and non-invasive option for anyone who wants to enhance their smile. At Sherwood Dental Center, we provide both Zoom® in-office whitening and custom take-home whitening trays. Zoom® whitening involves just one quick visit to our office in Amarillo, where we will use a special whitening gel and laser to lighten your teeth several shades in about an hour. Take-home whitening trays, on the other hand, are created using impressions of your teeth and allow you to brighten your smile in the comfort of your own home over two or three weeks. Both whitening options are effective; to learn more about cosmetic dentistry or which type of whitening is right for you, please call our office soon to schedule a consultation with Dr. Koen.
